Freedom Corner welcomes visitors at any time and is available for use as a public forum for issues promoting human rights and social justice.  To schedule a group visit to Freedom Corner or to apply for a permit to use the site for a demonstration or rally, call the Hill District CDC office, 412-765-1320 .

::  Burying the Time Capsule
Celebrating the completion of the Freedom Corner monument, several hundred Pittsburghers gathered at the site on Sunday, March 10, 2002, for the laying of the "Stone of Origin" in the monument's Circle of Honor.  At this time, two time capsules were also buried on the monument grounds. Presented by NAACP President Tim Stevens and Urban League President and CEO Esther L. Bush, these capsules contain the story of Freedom Corner and of the civil rights movement in Western Pennsylvania.

::  Torch of Freedom Awards
To recognize the contributions of individual leaders in the civil rights movement, each year the Freedom Corner Committee presents the Torch of Freedom Award in ceremonies at Freedom Corner. To date, the recipients are:

::  A copy of the Freedom Corner Dedication Program and a final proof of the learner's guide (The Lessons of Freedom Corner);

::  Press clippings about the history and creation of the Freedom Corner monument and individuals who led the struggle for social justice;

::  A listing of marches and demonstrations that originated from Freedom Corner from 1960 through 2002, as well as a flyer used to recruit participants for the 1963 March for Jobs and Justice; and

::  The reflective comments of Dr. LeRoy Patrick at the dedication of Freedom Corner on April 22, 2001.
